23 Blacks teens told: leave lands for work-murdochpaperarticle

ABORIGINAL teenagers who drop out of school should expect to leave their traditional lands to attend TAFE and training courses, indigenous leaders said yesterday. __ A Howard Government plan to stop indigenous people staying on Aboriginal work-for-the-dole programs indefinitely has been supported by Aboriginal leaders. __ But they have warned that training places need to be dramatically increased for the scheme to work. __ Members of the the Government's National Indigenous Council said that training should be linked to local work opportunities so teenagers could return home.__ NIC member Wesley Aird said while the connection to land was important, indigenous teenagers should expect to leave their remote homes to complete training courses.
